Basildon, Essex, England

Langenduna, or Langdon Hills, was listed in the Domesday Book of 1086.  This small town can be found to the south of Laindon and it shares a border with Thurrock.

During the 16th and 17th Centuries over 760 Essex residents were accused of Witchcraft.  In 1589 Thomas Corde of Langdon Hills was one of these.  It is not known what he was accused of doing or what the outcome was.

Dantuna, known in modern times as Dunton, was a plotlands site.  Small parcels of land were sold in the late 1800's and early 1900's to Londoners as weekend, or holiday homes.  Many moved in to these homes during the war.

The Dunton plotlands started appearing in the 1930's.  One of these plotland homes, The Haven, has been preserved as the Plotlands Museum near the Langdon Visitors Centre.  It's a real eye-opener to see the way people lived in our town all those years ago.
